Unwieldy World
The world at large holds but precarious promise;
news that we hear shakes our confidence,
but, deeper than these headlines ominous,
inside, our faith can outstrip worldly sense.
We can know the world that is all around us,
held in hands greater far than mine;
It is only day by day we face it;
behind dark clouds, the sun can ever shine
The smiles I see on streets or children's faces,
reassurance that care and kindness still exist,
the singing bird is clear, a musical oasis;
the waving grain is by the sunshine kissed.
When daunting fear is overcome by goodness,
when patience grows and, growing, has its way,
the chaos crowding all around is settled,
within, as inner peace comes to hold sway
Our hands tend to grow stronger when not idle;
the heart is nourished by the efforts made.
As a horse is ably guided by his bridle,
enthusiasm bubbles as a swift cascade..
As days go by, with each successive hour ,
some needed task in willingness is done,
and guided ever by the spirit's power,
the world rolls on from rising to setting sun.
