Anyway, Flowers

Saucer-sized Dahlias always bloomed by fair-time,
when the goldenrods were, glowing by the road,
frothy white wild cucumbers festooned the fence row,
while the town crew kept the shoulder neatly mowed.

This summer dahlias seem to climax in foliage;
no gold and pink generous glowing blooms,
could have been the dry and very hot July,
or unexpected heat that came in June.

But the morning glories gladly hug the plant hook
clinging to the summer when it finally rained,
and forget-me-nots their bright blue memos took,
saying, "likely fall will come again."

Store the saved dahlia bulbs cool and dryly;
next spring brings another chance.
They may blossom hugely, never shyly;
sometimes it works out that way with plants.
