Confidence Challenged
Summer may soon draw her curtain;
the calendar says it's just a rest.
Hurricanes are present for certain;
although a wonder,
we welcome thunder,
rain to quench fires in the west.
Holding promise from across the seas,
our troops and allies safely will return,
long participation with foreign trainees,
of groups too tumultuous to learn.
So, domestic or foreign, hope is strained,
battling disease and discord, strength is tried.
Can order, unvarying trust be maintained,
confidence in direction and in guide?
Bedraggled by confinement, election discord,
ethnic issues, disrupting, to unravel,
may our republic in deed, also in word,
be staunch in the journey that we travel.
