Simple majesty

The animation, how it entertains,
bird feeder alive with social life;
hopping in white fluff, changed from rain,
males in bright plumage, modest, active wife.

Big, feisty woodpecker, king on the hill,
takes his share and noisily holds forth;
nuthatch, inverted, quickly gets his fill,
sheltered from winds out of the north.

You, car challenged by slipperiness,
may hesitate, approaching to the ice,
while birds each other dispossess,
from their perches, is that one bit nice?

The snow, outlining shapely boughs,
softly publish winter's bold headline.
snow punctuated by footprints of the mouse,
subtly contrasts with wonder's grand design.

Just show your wonder, unashamed,
of your simple, artless admiration;
knowing that you have been entertained,
by the Artist of nature's divine creation.
