Restructuring

Oh, Amery, streets not two-way, even one-way,
impassable. streets seem to go nowhere,
it would seem, to be acceptable some day,
until then, can we get from here to there?

The entrails of utilities unearthed,
cones, curbs, detour signs direct the way;
fronts of buildings directly unapproachable,
the alley side to be found another day.

Why, I recall or great grandfather can tell,
when the centerline was a parking area
"Look both ways--no- at least,-two to six ways;
until you're accustomed, could be hysteria.

Would you believe, forty-six went way around;
they dug up Keller;constructed forty-six right through,
because there was the parking area removed,
the stores could keep their front side face in view.

Patience, another word for citizen
who endures inconveniences in the way,
until utilities, new businesses,
are available or improved another day.

Oh, Amery, our hats off, though disheveled,
to see you bear it for the future time,
your surface dug up, and piled, up and leveled,
so your condition can be better, even prime.

The library, seat of information,
and the bank, the base of finance sound,
may each be in appropriate location;
when detours are done, we can get around.
