Toad on Road

A little toad sat on the road,
blinking innocently;
an old man smiled,
and said, "My child",

such wonders you may see,
as frogs and bogs,
and ducks on logs,
on marshy land or sea.

But always,when,
you see such things.
poor as church mice,
rich as kings,

remember the toad,
there on the road,
who blinks but never sings.
