Thankfulness

Why do I thank You?
May I count the reasons vast?
I thank You for the life You gave to me;
I thank for every day that's fresh and new.

Thanks bubbles upward as I think of family,
of generations that gave traditions and our ways,
for friends that form acceptance and support,
nature that fills our sight, our senses all around.

For love within, without, to give and to receive,
supplying daily needs and aesthetically fulfilled,
for sense of love, care and wisdom from above,
for facets of government that seek justice and truth.

For the freedom to express and just be me,
that thanks exists enough to declare Thanksgiving Day.
