See-Saw Spring and Summer
Well, Good Morning; It's over sixty degrees;
the leaves are all green and growing.
The ice is long gone; we seldom fear freeze;
a warm, muggy south wind is blowing.
April brought showers, some of them snow;
eighty degrees one day skimmed the scene.
May flowers peeked out; cow slips, yellow glow;
now it's rainy and humid and green.
It's nice now to know we won't slip in the snow,
and the sun urges crops every day.
In such a short time, in this fickle clime.
almost welcoming June, leaving May.
Summer in Wisconsin, days hot, some not,
days for games on, some day's plans rained out,
cheer for the parade and cold lemonade;
Welcome the Fourth of July with a shout.
In Amery, it's said, No summer days dead;
summer holidays, sail-shaped flags fly,
on the lakes' shining shore, proudly once more,
they greet us under the welcoming sky.
