Bird Greeting
Little, sunny yellow goldfinch,
looking down on perky crew,
in the bright and breezy sunshine,
saying, "Buenos Dios" to you.
Mr. Woodpecker, ruby jeweled,
in your black and white array,
your big brother, red-bellied, misnamed,
hooded, but not riding, friend, breakfast, and quickly away.
Company for the early morning,
wish your energy would be,
witnessed by the kingly cardinal,
contagious and now shared with me.
Joined by nuthatch, upside-down bird,
dining with distinctive style,
though none shares with audible word,
each one adds to me a smile.
Shall I step out and grow perky,
start the day you demonstrate,
a little fun , a little worky,
join me in some hot chocolate.
