Tracks May Tell
Snow sifting over grass and land,
covering yesterday's passing tracks,
new footprints--remember those in sand,
in doubt, where prints of partner lacks.
Snow reveals a few new things,
tiny toe prints, shape and size,
landing, resting, busy wings,
various shapes for curious eyes.
Those creatures led to hibernate,
leave no clue where they have been;
while hunters may appreciate,
fresh evidence upon the scene.
from mouse-sized marks by tiny toes,
the sly fox harks; small game he knows.
What truly touches the heart, the track,
of the human tracks, a single pair
when carried on our Maker's back,
He has answered an unspoken prayer.
So, little creatures numerous,
leaving tracks in the new snow,
you intrigue the ever curious,
who would wild creatures like to know.
Those making tracks or taking wing,
or long term, unseen, hibernate,
it will all change in the spring,
when you wake or return with mate.
