Standing For

Aloft, our flag continues high and proud,
proclaims freedom, in which we have a part,
though the report of skyrockets is loud,
it only echoes allegiance in our heart.

Those stars, identifying with each state,
that holds a common unity in much,
and still hold mores that, in part, relate,
we individuals, like our symbol, eagle, clutch,

hanging onto liberty of acts and mind,
while bearing on the goal to all protect,
acknowledging that our rights are confined,
to where the other's well-being we affect.
