Solstice
Shorter days? For now, just a few;
it soon will creep up on me or you.
While we waited,breathless, for Nativity
recalling the day the world deemed free.
While shortening light ruled Advent's days,
subtly, moments earlier, comes dawn's haze.
As comes remembrance of nativity,
we celebrate the gift, spirit set free.
We, hesitant to living just today,
perceive the coming season on its way,
and, with changed horizons now in view,
move forward to live a year that's new.
Unnecessary to drag burdens, past,
reaching out for hope that can ever last,
and longer days of laughter, time and tears,
freed to live the future, new days and years.
