Farewell with Humor

The words. “I love you,” brightly printed,
on a helium balloon,
the tasks thoughtfully completed,
knowledge we'll be together soon.

Though the words may be less soulful,
than daydreams would have them be,
there's the witty, backhanded compliment,
constructed with such glee.

The backward glance, nostalgic,
contains a playful smile;
the light way you show affection,
is dear, your own droll style.
